Where our quartz is used
Our quartz goes into industrial processes as supplied, or to customers who purify it further. We keep the two apart.
Industrial applications
Used as supplied, selected by particle size and the chemistry on the batch COA.

Ceramics
Glass manufacturing
Engineered stone
Water filtration
Ceramics
A main body and glaze component. Iron content affects the fired colour.
Glass manufacturing
Silica is the main glass former. Clear and low-iron glass have strict iron limits.
Refractories
High silica content and controlled impurities matter at high temperature.
Foundry
Graded quartz for moulding and casting processes.
Abrasives
Quartz is hard (Mohs 7), and crushed grains are angular.
Engineered stone
Grits and powder make up most of the mass of quartz surfaces.
Water filtration
Hard, chemically stable, graded media for filter beds.
Industrial fillers
Fine powder as a functional filler in coatings, resins and compounds.
Construction materials
Graded quartz where the product specification allows it.
Feedstock for further processing
Sri Lankan vein quartz can have naturally high SiO2 content. That makes it useful to customers who run their own purification, or who supply processors that do.

- High-purity silica production
- Crucible manufacturing feedstock, subject to further processing and customer qualification
- Specialty glass
- Optical materials, after purification and qualification by the customer
Advanced applications
Photovoltaic, optical and semiconductor supply chains need impurity levels far below industrial grades. Our material can enter these chains only as feedstock, after additional purification and qualification by the downstream manufacturer.
